i am 8 weeks pregnant. i have been nauseous since week 5 and throw up 3-6 times a day. i throw up more when i take in any type of fluids. all i seem to be able to eat is dry toast and crackers. obviously without water, i almost choke when i throw up now. what can i do? i even tried getting up slowly and eating before i get out of bed. this lasts all night too until i go to sleep. will it ever end?

Olivia, You are not alone. I have become supersensitive to smells as well and stuff that I used to like, now I find myself hating... For example my hubby's hug... Also I cant stand hand towels that have been used even once mildly. I cant stand the smell of the bodywash, sweet as it may be... I cant stand the rice boiling or any cooking smells... So dont worry abt it.
Forget smells, I hate being touched nowadays... Even an itsy bitsy kiss on my cheek, I hate... I told my hubby that I am having a heightened sense of smell & touch and he is completely understanding... He however cannot resist provoking me by trying to poke a finger at my waist or steal a kiss.. and I turn back and tell him No... but thats all in the game... He does understand that it has got nothing to do with him and all to do with me and my "weirdness", so you may want to show this article or tell your partner and then both of you would feel a lot better...

Apple sauce, Gatorade, Popsicles
and Jell-o. I lived off of this
stuff when I was REALLY sick. These
were the nicest to my stomach.

I too have found the prenatal vitamins are making me much sicker than I should be. I have gotten the sea band braclets as well and they don't get rid of the nausea but they do ease it alittle.(you gotta make sure you have them on right) And it's a good idea to have something around to snack on at all times b/c letting your stomach get completely empty makes it a WHOLE lot worse.

It's my first pregnancy too and I'm 6.5 weeks. My all day nausea started this week and I feel completely miserable. I haven't found anything that helps yet. My biggest problem is smells - even getting a hug from my partner makes me feel sick when I smell his aftershave! Haven't told him though!

whatever you do keep plenty of crackers (or any other light "comfort" food) and ginger ale around. I found that the mornings and late afternoons were the worst time for me so I made sure to take my little ziplock bag of crackers and can of ginger ale with me everywhere I went!

I am 10.5 weeks and haven't had any nausea or vomiting, but I do constantly feel like I need to gag, and sometimes I do (nothing comes up, fortunately). I have no idea how to treat this! I'm not queasy, so it's not like I'm trying to settle my stomach. I just have this feeling of a lump stuck in my throat, and sometimes I "choke" and "gag" on the lumpy feeling. I'm due Feb 2004.

Hello
I feel right at home with everyone's
stories. I am 13 weeks now. I still
have morning sickness and still have
nauseau throughout the day. My sickness started around my 6th week. I was in
the hospital around my 7th week for dehydration. I thought to myself I am going to be the first person to die from pregnancy! BUT SLOWLY it is getting better! But SLOWLY!!

Thanks Annette... I will try Gatorade. Even I am trying to get an ok from my manager to work from home for sometime. Hopefully that should help a little... I think my prenatal is causing me all this problems. When I take my prenatals, my head just goes round and round and I have this extra queazy feeling in my stomach. I am relatively happier(and guiltier) if I throw up my prenatal.. Guess I need to talk to my doc regarding this...

Well, I see I have lots of company. Priya, I hear you, I'm due in February 2004 as well and can hardly wait to get there!
Somebody had recommended sour things and I found that helped. Priya, do you like Jello? That's mostly water and I found the lime flavor to be OK. Also lemon-lime Gatorade. Maybe it'll settle better than plain water, which was the case for me.
Shannon, I tried the Sea-bands and they didn't work but I figured it was only a $10 gamble so it was worth a try--they might work for you, who knows.
Lory--I negotiated working at home one day a week for the first trimester, until I can get past the worst of the fatigue. Luckily my supervisor and lab director are very supportive--depending on whether or not it's an option for what you do it might be worth exploring.
Good luck all!

Hi,Am finishing 10 weeks. This is my first one... I started nausea + vomiting full force from my 8th week. Till then nothing!! But things have been so bad that I have lost 12 pounds. What bothers me the worst is that I am NOT able to take more than 2 sips of water. The moment water hits my stomach, I throw up. Am concerned abt this.. Is this normal ? Please help. Crackers are of no use for me. The only liquid that stays in my stomach is 1 cup of tea made just out of fatfree milk and no water.
Help again! I hate this sickness and vomiting and wish I could fast forward to Feb 2004 when my little one is due.

7 weeks pregnant and the nausea just started a few days ago, but it is here in full force and it lasts all day! I haven't started vomiting, but this all over flu-like feeling is miserable and exhausting. A full time job is difficult to do and to stay focused during the day - I am finding some relief in sucking on a hard piece of candy and sipping water all day. Will try the ginger snap idea though.

UGGG! I am 7 weeks pregnant. I have been sick for 2 weeks now and I am sick of it already even though I know I have another 8 weeks of this to go (I never get to feeling better til 15 weeks). Just found this place, thought I might find a cure (lol) for my all day sickness and a few friends also. Anyone who wants to can email me, and I will write back in between laying down and chasing my other 3 kids.

It is really good to see and hear I'm not the only miserable first timer out here. I am almost 8wks and nothing seems to work to relieve the all day mausea and some vomitting. I too have tried ginger snaps, ginger ale, crackers. Nothing taste good, nothing smells good. I do get a small break between 2pm and 5pm usually, then it's back with full force. But nothing is as bad as the morning to mid afternoons. I have also had the metallic taste when trying to drink water. And the sweet/acidic taste.I'm not sure what that's about. The only the I have found that is ok is saltine crackers. They are no miracle worker that's for sure but it can settle the stomach abit.

I found that prenatal vitamins were only making me feel more nauseated (I'm in my 22nd week). My doctor suggested that I take two Flinstone vitamins a day, along with a folic acid tablet, and that has made all the difference.

This is a great webpage and I look forward to using it the next 8 months!
I am only 5 weeks along and 2 days ago started getting pretty bad 'all day' sickness and am afraid it isn't going to go away anytime soon. This scares me as it's hard to focus on a full time job while having a throbbing headache and feeling like I am going to throw up every minute. Do these Sea-Bands really work? Worth the time and $$? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,
This is a first pregnancy for me, and I'll be 39 this month. I'm about 9 weeks along and have discovered that "morning" sickness is a complete misnomer--but I suppose calling it "24/7 sickness with gas" isn't as catchy.
I read back a bit but haven't seen anyone mention what I've been experiencing--I'm finding it hard to stay hydrated because water tastes funny all of a sudden. It doesn't matter if it's tap water or bottled water, there's a funny metallic? acidic/sweet? something aftertaste to it. I'm not a soda person, and orange juice (while I like it) causes all kinds of problems. Has anyone encountered this?

Sarah, prenatal is a vitamin that doctors prescribe for you to take before and during pregnancy. Supposed to give you all the extra vitamins you need during pregnancy. You probably call them something else. Also, Gatorade is a drink we have here in the US. I don't really know how to describe it...supposed to help keep you hydrated.

I too suffer from all day all night nausea and vomiting it is a neverending story. I've tried everything from the sea bands to crackers, ginger ale fresh lemons you name it. But I found that if before i go to sleep I sniff on vicks vapor rub it helps me get to sleep and alleviates a little of the nausea.

Just wanted to say, that a friend of mine suggested putting some rubbing alcohol on a hand towel and sniffing it to relieve nausea. Ask your doctor first, of course. It worked for my mild nausea but not really for when it was more intense. Has anyone tried the preggie pops? How do they work?

It is really helpful to read these postings and know that I am not alone in my misery. This is my first pregnancy and the nausea is constant all day every day save for a few moments of relief after i eat something. It is such a disappointment to wish for something for so long and then when it happens feel too sick to appreciate or enjoy it. I am so frightened that this will not go away after 12 weeks.. i think i will lose my mind if that is the case.
praying for relief.

seabands did not do a thing for me. I am starting my 7th week and am nauseated all day and all night. I wake up feeling sick in the middle of the night. I did the ginger snaps and saltines and ginger ale (drink bleheim) and still, I am sick. Its in my throat all the time! (the feeling of sick) Ginger tea, (ginger and cane sugar only) temporarily relieved the nausea.
Only 5 more weeks to go!
