If you’ve done any looking at all for natural ways to fight morning sickness, you’ve heard that ginger is one of the best. While not all women will respond to ginger, many are able to get at least some relief from their morning sickness by using this amazing herb.

What you might not realize is that ginger is good for more than just morning sickness (or adding flavor to your favorite Asian cuisine). According to a new study, ginger may have some serious potential in terms of helping to prevent cancer.

This study looked specifically at prostate cancer. According to the study, ginger extract was able to help stop the growth of cancer cells in the lab. It also helped to induce cell death for prostate cancer cells.

According to the research, ginger could help to support the regression of tumors by as much as 60 percent. This is a significant number, and reflects real potential.

One of the best things about ginger is that, while it seemed to show the ability to kill cancer cells, it did not demonstrate any toxicity whatsoever for normal, healthy cells or tissue. In particular, ginger was tested for bone marrow toxicity, and it was shown to be completely non-toxic.

This particular research looked at more than just some of those well-known anti-cancer elements that can be found in ginger. Instead, it looked at ginger extract and the way that the various elements played together.

According to the research, a person would only need to take in around 3.5 ounces of ginger extract each day in order to reap the anti-cancer benefits.

Most cancer cells responded to the extract in the study, although prostate cancer cells were the focus of this research. It suggests that there may be potential for women, too, as both breast cancer and cervical cancer cells seemed to be affected by the ginger extract.

While more research is needed, the potential is certainly something to be excited about.

So, what are your feelings about ginger? Have you used it for morning sickness, or as a nutritional supplement? What form of ginger do you most enjoy taking?
