Flavors that Relive Morning Sickness

Some smells and flavors aggravate morning sickness. Others are known to relive morning sickness. Flavors which are known for relieving morning sickness include ginger, spearmint, peppermint, lavender, and sour fruit flavors like raspberry, lemon, and tangerine.

There are a number of ways you can use flavors that relieve morning sickness. You can:

  • Eat lemons, tangerines, raspberries or other sour fruit directly.
  • Suck on hard candies with flavors that relive morning sickness.
  • Buy lollipops in flavors that relieve morning sickness. You can even find suckers designed specifically for those who are suffering from morning sickness during their first trimester.
  • Chew peppermint, spearmint, or tangerine flavored gum. Alternately, you can chew on mint leaves. Just remember not to swallow them.
  • Drink ginger ale.
  • Nibble on ginger root.
  • Eat ginger snaps.

These days, they even make B6 vitamin supplement lozenges in flavors that relieve morning sickness. Vitamin B6 is known to reduce nausea and increase energy. Many doctors recommend supplementing with vitamin B6 even if you are not experiencing morning sickness.

Some women find it difficult to eat any kind of food while experiencing morning sickness. Experiment with the different flavors that relieve morning sickness to see which ones work for you. Every woman (and every pregnancy) is different. You may find that some, all, or none of these flavors relieve morning sickness for you.

There’s no exact science to treating morning sickness. Fortunately, having morning sickness doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you or your baby. In fact, most health care professionals will tell you that your baby is more likely to be healthy if you experience morning sickness.

If you find a flavor that works to help relieve your morning sickness, make sure you have some on hand. Keep some hard candies or ginger snaps in your nightstand by your bed, and carry something with that flavor in your purse when you go out. As you may have already discovered, morning sickness can strike anywhere, at any time of day.

Remember, even though it’s unpleasant, morning sickness won’t last long. Morning sickness usually stops towards the beginning of the second trimester. Until then, using the flavors that relieve morning sickness can help you get through it.
